Csaba Deák teaches urbanism and planning at the Săo Paulo University. He has been writing on the peculiarities of Brazilian society, the effects of these on urban life and especially Săo Paulo, as well as on the recent trends at work in world capitalism ('globalization'?) and in Brazil, being a critique of neoliberalism either as an interpretation of the current crisis or as policy making self qualified as being aimed at overcoming it. He is a critique also of the 'poor country, precarious infrastructure' principle dominant in Brazilian thinking and an advocate for new levels of investment in environment and infrastructure, especially rapid mass transportation, such as a Metrô (Underground) network as pictured below right.
